11.05.08 Chinese court sentences five Tibetans between 3 - 10 years imprisonment for Kardze Protests

In the past few days, five Tibetans were given lengthy prison sentences ranging from 3 -10 years' imprisonment term by the Kardze Intermediate People's Court in Dartsedo (Ch: Kangding), Kardze "Tibet Autonomous Prefecture" ('TAP') Sichuan Province on charges ranging from "endangering state security to disrupting public order and other crimes", according to confirmed information received by the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD) from reliable sources. -Read Full Release

11.03.08 China re-arrests monk who exposed Chinese crackdown to foreign media

Jigme, a Tibetan Buddhist monk, who provided a rare first-hand account of China's crackdown on Tibetan protesters to foreign media has been arbitrarily arrested by Sangchu County People's Armed Police(PAP) and Public Security Bureau (PSB) this afternoon from one of the Tibetan homes in Labrang for unknown reason according to confirmed information received by the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD) from reliable sources. -Read Full Release

11.03.08 China sentences 14 Tibetans for March unrest in Tibet

China state media, Xinhua, reported on 29 October that, three county courts of the "Tibet Autonomous Region" ('TAR') sentenced 14 Tibetans to varying prison terms on alleged crimes ranging from endangering public security, robbery, smashing or looting and creating disturbances in so called "March riot". -Read Full Release

10.09.08 A Tibetan AIDS activist disappears in Tibet

The whereabouts of Tibetan HIV/AIDS activist, Wangdue (one name only), remains unknown to his family members since he was arbitrarily detained by the Lhasa City Public Security Bureau (PSB) officials from his home on 14 March 2008 in Lhasa, according to confirmed information received by the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD). -Read Full Release

09.29.08 Five Ramoche monks missing since April raid

The Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD) expresses its deepest concern over the fate of former Chanzoe (manager and the treasurer) Sonam Rabgyal and four other monks of Ramoche Temple, whose whereabouts could not be ascertained since their arrest during a midnight raid in monks' residence on 7 April 2008. -Read Full Release

09.25.08 More cases of Enforced and Involuntary Disappearance surfaces from Tibet

In the recent few months after the outbreak of the major protests across the Tibetan plateau since March 10, 2008, a few more cases of, particularly, the enforced and involuntary disappearance of Tibetans are beginning to surface. According to the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD), there are at least more than a thousand Tibetans whose current whereabouts and well being remains completely unknown to their family members and their affiliated monasteries. -Read Full Release

Tibetan journalist, Rangjung, who was arrested around midnight on 11 September 2008 by Sertha County Public Security Bureau official from his home for unknown reason, still remains unknown. According to reliable sources, the friends and family members of Rangjung have not heard from him since his arrest on 11 September. The Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD) expresses its deepest concern over the well-being of Tibetan journalist and calls for the Chinese authorities to ascertain his whereabouts to the family members. -Read Full Release
08.07.08 Olympics and Tibet under a cloud of repression

On the eve of China's first Olympics, as the world prepares to gaze more intently than ever on the grand spectacle of the 29th Olympics, the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD) deplores and expresses its deepest dismay on China's failure to uphold the Olympic principles particularly with regard to continual of repression in Tibet. The communist regime continues to cling on to its old authoritarian ways and still ruthlessly suppresses peaceful dissent. 07.30.08 China arrests four Tibetans for protesting against festival to greet Olympics

Four Tibetan youth in Nangchen County in north eastern Qinghai Province were arrested on 26 July 2008 by the Chinese Public Security Bureau (PSB) officials for protesting against the Summer Festival planned by the Chinese government to greet the upcoming Beijing Olympic Games, according to confirmed information received by the Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (TCHRD). -Read Full Release

07.15.08 Two months' ultimatum issued to the Tibetan Communist Party members and government employees to recall their children studying in exile schools - 13 ethnic Tibetan Party members expelled in Lhasa

Following a series of protests by Tibetans across Tibet since 10 March 2008, the Chinese authorities have embarked on numerous premeditated measures and steps to tighten control over the Tibetan people. The Olympic torch relay will travel to the heavily guarded Tibetan capital, Lhasa, on 21 June after the three-day tour that was initially planned was cut to one day.
