One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish…And Lots of Violet and Orange Fish!
Pepperidge Farm Introduces New Goldfish Colors -- and Looks to
Share the “Goldfish Colors Across America” Program
With Kids From Coast to Coast

Norwalk, CT, October 28, 2002 – For 40 years, Americans nationwide have been enjoying Pepperidge Farm Goldfish® crackers – the fun, wholesome snack with the familiar smiling fish shape. Now when consumers dive into a package of Goldfish brand crackers, they will find that life has become a bit more colorful.

Pepperidge Farm today announced a vibrant new addition to the Goldfish family – Goldfish Colors, our first-ever multi-colored cheese flavored Goldfish snack. Featuring the savory cheddar flavor that so many Goldfish fans love, Goldfish Colors have the added attraction of coming in three delightful shades – violet, red and orange (added colors developed from natural sources). The new product will be available in major grocery stores and mass merchandisers nationwide. National distribution of the product, which marks one of the largest Goldfish product launches in the brand’s 40-year history, will be complete by November*. Goldfish Colors will be sold in the traditional Goldfish bag and retail for approximately $1.79 for 5.5 ounces.

“All the consumers we talked to just loved the idea of multi-colored Goldfish,” said Vince Melchiorre, Vice President, Biscuit Marketing, Pepperidge Farm. “People have always equated Goldfish with a fun, happy experience -- and giving Goldfish a mix of cheerful colors just makes them even better.”

Goldfish Colors Brings the “Goldfish Colors Across America” Program to Kids

To help celebrate the introduction of Goldfish Colors, Pepperidge Farm has created a nationwide art-supply donation program called “Goldfish Colors Across America.” The program’s goals are to help children share the color in their own lives with others – and to respond to the art-supply shortages being experienced by so many budget-strapped school districts today. [Recent data indicates that art supplies in American schools are currently so under-funded that teachers buy more than $1 billion worth of supplies with their own money each year just to make sure students aren’t deprived of their important creative development.]

The “Goldfish Colors Across America” program will help kids have more color in their lives in two ways.

First, there’s a nationwide crayon donation campaign. For every child (or adult!) who sends in a crayon from home, Goldfish Colors will donate a new box of crayons -- up to $10,000 worth -- to the International Child Art Foundation (ICAF) and tri-state area schools. Plus, the first 5,000 consumers who donate will get a free bag of new Goldfish Colors crackers.

Crayon donations should be sent to:

Then, on November 8th, Goldfish Colors will host a special event at New York City’s famous Grand Central Terminal, where area school children will join in to provide a unique launch for this exciting new Goldfish product. [*More details will be communicated closer to the launch event date.]

“Color is an essential part of all our lives, but it is perhaps most important in the lives of children,” concludes Vince Melchiorre. “Through the “Goldfish Colors Across America” program, Goldfish Colors will help more children enjoy the special fun and learning that experiences with color and creative arts can bring.”

Goldfish is one of Pepperidge Farm’s most popular brands – one-half of all U.S. households with kids age 12 and under have Goldfish products in them, and more than 85 billion Goldfish are consumed worldwide each year. Other products in the Goldfish brand family include traditional Goldfish, Flavor Blasted® Goldfish, Giant Goldfish, Giant Goldfish Sandwich Crackers and Baby Goldfish.
