IMAGINE A LAWN SWING IN THE KITCHEN AND A CLOCK ON THE LAWN
IKEA Unveils its PS Collection 2002 that Offers an
Unlimited Edition with Unlimited Possibilities

NEW YORK, March 20, 2002 — IKEA, the leading home furnishings retailer, announced today the launch of PS Collection 2002, the third installment in their design collection, in the U.S. market. The new line of exclusively designed furnishings and accessories offers functional solutions which bring the “outside in and the inside out” to the home, as well as the backyard, porch, rooftop, or the space “in between.”

The seventeen designers, who were selected for the new PS Collection 2002, were assigned the task to work with materials that can function well both indoors, outdoors, and withstand all kinds of weather. From plastic to concrete, stone to rattan, or metal to banana leaves these varied, durable materials were produced into more than 30 different unique designs in the collection.

“This collection is the ultimate representation of what IKEA is known for: good design and function at affordable prices so the majority of people can easily achieve the home of their dreams,” said Gunnel Hasselbalch, IKEA spokesperson. “What distinguishes the products in our new collection is how they integrate in any space with unlimited possibilities for relaxation and freedom – indoors as well as outdoors.

PS, which stands for post scriptum, was first introduced in Milan and Stockholm in 1995 and then a second PS collection installment was developed in 1999. The latest installment of PS is the first collection to offer so many diverse product designs ranging from a lawn swing, a colorful clock on a stick, multi-colored watering cans, unique plant pots, tray tables, creative chairs and seating options, as well as a barbecue grill and accessories.

While the PS Collection 2002 product range is assorted in its look, feel and purpose, the designers are just as distinctive including recent Parsons School of Design graduate student, Hlynur Vagn Atlason, well-known and highly regarded Swedish freelancer, Thomas Sandell, Danish design consultant and IKEA freelancer Ehlén Johansson as well as in-house IKEA designer, Maria Vinka. These select designers will be on-hand at today’s special PS Collection 2002 launch event reception at the Puck Building in New York City where many of the new PS Collection 2002 products will be on exhibition.

Since its founding in 1943, IKEA has offered a wide range of home furnishings and accessories of good design and function, at prices so low that the majority of the people can afford them. IKEA is recognized as a socially responsible company, and continuously supports initiatives that benefit causes such as children and the environment. Currently, IKEA has 165 stores in 31 countries, including 15 stores in the United States and nine stores in Canada. To visit the IKEA web site, please go to http://www.ikea-us.com.
