For Immediate Release H&M Seeks Children’s Work of Art for T-Shirt Design NEW YORK, March 17, 2003 — For children, the statement, “a picture is worth a thousand words” couldn’t be more fitting. And, for H&M, Europe’s leading fashion retailer, giving children the opportunity to use their imagination and create a design for a limited edition H&M t-shirt couldn’t be more of a fashion statement. On Saturday, April 5th and Sunday, April 6th all day at H&M stores carrying the children’s collection, kids will have the opportunity to participate in the “Creative Kids Make a Fashion Statement” program benefiting Save the Children. This national not-for-profit child-assistance organization is committed to make lasting positive change in the lives of children in need. H&M invites children participants up to 14-years-old to put crayon to paper and visually bring to life “What Summer Means to Me.” “We love the idea of helping kids design a shirt for our children’s collection,” explained Karen Belva, public relations manager, H&M. “The event not only allows children to express themselves through art, but at the same time helps to fund some of the Save the Children programs.” The winning child's work of art will be imprinted on a limited edition H&M t-shirt, which will be available for purchase beginning Monday, April 21 in H&M's Children's Departments at a retail price of $5.50. H&M will donate the purchase price of the “Creative Kids Make a Fashion Statement” t-shirt directly to Save the Children. All participants will need to create their “masterpiece” at a participating H&M store location near them (locations listed below) where paper, crayons and entry forms will be supplied. Each of these H&M store locations will select a winning finalist and then one child’s work of art will be used as a summer theme design on an H&M t-shirt. The winner will receive a $100 gift certificate and their first name included with “designed by” on each of the H&M t-shirts’ sales tags. The remaining store finalists will receive a $50 H&M gift certificate. “So many of the programs that we benefit are all about teaching kids to express themselves through reading, writing and especially art,” explained Jane Birnbaum, senior manager, corporate marketing, Save the Children. “What better way to generate support than letting children create an H&M t-shirt as their own expression of summer, which will ultimately help to fund programs that enable children in need to grow, develop and express themselves.” H&M Stores with Children’s Departments and Store Hours: Connecticut * Brassmill Center; 495 Union Street, Waterbury, CT; M-Sa: 10am-9:30 pm; Su: 11am-6pm Delaware * Concord Mall; 4737 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE; M-Sa: 10 am-9:30 pm; Su: 11 am-6:00pm Maryland * Arundel Mills; 7000 Arundel Mills Circle, Hanover, MD; M-Sa: 10am-9:30pm and Su:11am-7pm Massachusetts * Downtown Crossing; 350 Washington Street, Boston, MA; M-Sa: 10am-8pm, Su: 11am-7pm New Hampshire * Mall @ Rockingham Park; 1 Mall Road, Salem, NH; M-Sa: 10am-9pm, Su: 11am-6pm New Jersey * Cherry Hill Mall; 2000 Route 38, Cherry Hill, NJ; M-Sa: 10am-9:30pm, Su: 11am-6pm New York * 125th Street; 125 West 125th Street, New York, NY; M-Sa: 10am-8pm, Su: 11am-7pm Pennsylvania * Exton Square Mall; 260 Exton Square, Exton, PA; M-Sa: 10am-9:30pm, Su: 11am-6pm Virginia * Potomac Mills; 2700 Potomac Mills Circle, Prince William, VA; M-Sa: 10am-9:30pm, Su: 11am-7 pm H&M is Europe’s leading fashion retailer offering fashion and quality at the best price.
