FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
THIS HOLIDAY SEASON, ONE MAN GIVES DOZENS OF HOMELESS
NEW YORKERS THE CHANCE TO RUN THEIR OWN BUSINESS

Dr. Fad Has Decided To Redefine What It Means To Give During the Holidays
by Announcing a Program Called “The Gift That Truly Keeps On Giving”

New York, NY (November 21, 2003) - The holidays are inherently a time when people want to give to those less fortunate. Some people may give a dollar to a homeless person on the street, another might donate a can of food to a shelter, someone else might donate their time—but there is one man who is redefining what it means to give this holiday season. Dr. Fad is giving homeless people a chance to be someone, have a feeling of self-worth and make an honest living by going into business for themselves.

Ken Hakuta, a.k.a. Dr. Fad, who first became nationally known for bringing the Wacky WallWalker to millions of consumers across the country, is proud to announce “The Gift That Truly Keeps on Giving” program. Dr. Fad will be giving out thousands of the “quintessential plastic spider fad” to homeless New Yorkers to sell for themselves – with 100% of the profits going into their own pockets. Dr. Fad will be going throughout New York City on Monday, December 8th and Tuesday, December 9th, making his first stop at Tompkins Square Park at 7:30 am (located at East 7th Street and Avenue A in NYC). Other locations throughout the day include: Washington Square Park, Union Square Park and Madison Square Park. Dr. Fad will be handing out Wacky WallWalkers – each bag containing 500 of the spiders, which can retail anywhere between $2 and $3 on the street. The only place Wacky WallWalkers will be available is on the streets of New York—the product officially went off the market.

“Day in and day out, these men and women beg for money to put food in their mouths and clothes on their backs and during the holidays, their strife is more prominent than ever. My hope is that this program may make their day a bit easier by actually selling something in return for the money they want,” explained Dr. Fad. “I believe that by giving homeless people an opportunity to gain a feeling of self-worth, the money they make from the Wacky WallWalkers will mean so much more to them because they are actually making it from their own little business.”

One of the ironic twists is that back in the Wacky WallWalker hey day, when it was shattering sales records, street vendors selling knock-offs were a major obstacle for Hakuta to overcome, “You know something about that makes it even better,” smiles Dr. Fad.

Ken Hakuta is available for interviews.

Dr. Fad who continues to assist budding entrepreneurs has a website www.drfad.com and a hotline 1-866-MYOWNFAD, where people can get advice and tips on how to turn their invention into the next Pet Rock. Entrepreneur Ken Hakuta purchased the North American distribution rights to the Wacky WallWalker, a plastic toy that crept down smooth surfaces. Over a period of six years, Hakuta earned $20 million while selling 250 million of this toy. His Emmy-nominated show “Dr. Fad Show” showcasing kids’ inventions, was syndicated nationally from 1987-1993. He is a graduate of the Harvard Business School and the author of a best-selling book, How to Create Your Own Fad and Make a Million Dollars.
