PIZZA SCORES WITH FOOTBALL FANS DURING THE SUPER BOWL
Domino’s Pizza Team Washington Sees Changes With Pizza
Sales and Tips Based on Who Is Winning the Game

WASHINGTON, DC – January 26, 2004 – As millions of avid football fans find their favorite jersey and position themselves in front of the television watching football’s pièce de résistance, Super Bowl Sunday, hundreds of Domino’s Pizza Team Washington delivery drivers will be filling their gas tanks and grabbing their heated hot bags to meet the demand of increased pizza orders.

According to Domino’s Pizza Team Washington, 150,000 pizzas are expected to be sold on Super Bowl Sunday, three times that of a typical Sunday. Sales tend to go strong from pre-game through half time.

“This is by far one of our busiest pizza ordering days of the year,” explained Frank Meeks, owner of Domino’s Pizza Team Washington. “And while it’s not shocking that pizza sales spike during the Super Bowl, it is surprising that how compelling the game is and which teams are playing affects pizza orders, topping selection and even tipping.”

Other interesting “cheesy” Domino’s Pizza Team Washington Super Bowl facts include:

* When a National Football Conference (NFC) team is winning, tipping goes up with drivers receiving up to a 25% tip. If an American Football Conference (AFC) team is winning tips drop down to around 10%.
* Although pepperoni and double cheese are long time favorites, this year Philly Cheese Steak pizzas are anticipated to make up approximately 20 percent of sales – you won’t find many disappointed Eagles fans in DC. Men (compared to women) tend to favor Philly Cheese Steak pizzas and Buffalo Wings; Buffalo Wings are anticipated to accompany 30 percent of pizza orders.
* If it’s a blowout and an AFC team is winning, pizza sales tend to wane.
* An interesting side note, football makes people much hungrier than State of the Union addresses… Although business was up during Bush’s State of the Union address last week (January 20), the majority of orders were medium size pizzas with one or two toppings. Super Bowl pizza sales are expected to be predominately large pizzas with multiple toppings, especially extra meat and sausage toppings.
