ACROSS THE COUNTRY HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS
PREPARE TO TAKE THEIR SAT’S

CollegeClickTV.com’s Unscientific Exit Poll At SAT Prep Centers Shows Optimism
AND a Wide Open Discussion with Their Parents about Finances

NEW YORK (February 10, 2009) – Online college resource, CollegeClickTV.com, conducted a unscientific poll of 1620 high school juniors currently taking SAT prep classes, to better understand the thinking of those investing their time and money in pursuit of a higher SAT score. The informal poll discovered that fifty-nine percent of the optimistic high school students felt that “of course” their college education would be worth it five years after they graduate.

Over half of those surveyed understand the economic realities, and stated that they have discussed their finances with their parents as it pertains to going to college. Interestingly, the top three reasons for choosing a college will be culture (22%), cost (14%) and reputation (12%).

With 68% surveyed spending more than 3 hours online a day, the “generation born with a mouse in their hand” will clearly be relying on the Internet (51%) during the college search process. Friends came in second at 16%. A surprising 9% had no idea where they were going to look for college information. Maybe they should ask their SAT prep teacher!

“Generation Y’ers are heavily immersed in the digital world, and trust their friends and peers,” notes CollegeClickTV.com Founder Glenn Pere. “This is the reason we wanted the site to focus on authentic, unscripted peer-to-peer college video reviews. We’re saving families time and money by creating an online hub – allowing students to explore many more colleges, some of which they may not have considered otherwise, all without having to leave their home or step-foot on a college campus first.”

High school juniors do seem to have their priorities right when it comes to studying for their SATs this March (89% will spend more than 21 hours, in addition to the 28 hours spent in their SAT test prep course) as opposed to the amount of time they “say” they text message (46% will spend more than 21 hours texting this year). While it may be a group pre-disposed to studying as they were talking a prep class, interestingly 19% were paying for the class themselves and 58% thought that taking the prep class would give them an advantage over those who didn’t.

President Eric Yaverbaum adds, “CollegeClickTV.com is a website that provides prospective college students with information from people they can relate best to through a medium they’re most familiar with. My daughter is going through the college search process now, and being able to get a far broader perspective from her peers will definitely impact her search and ultimately, which school she’ll want to go to.”

The poll also revealed some other interesting statistics:

  • Only 14% will use a traditional guidebook as their first resource, but 16% will get it from friends.

  • The library at 11% still beats out studying at their boyfriend or girlfriends house (10%).
  • Even as newspaper readership declines have been widely reported, 69% of these “future subscribers” are reading the brick and mortar paper.11% read the daily newspaper for more than one hour a day!

  • 14% answered they “sure hope so” when asked if the SAT Prep class would give them an advantage.
  • Only 5% said they were too uncomfortable to talk with their parents about the financial issues surrounding their college choice.
